Civil Rights Cases Involving Government Practices and Public and Private Institutions

The Legal Aid Society may get involved in actions against state or local governments and some private entities on issues affecting low-income Milwaukee County residents.

Past cases have included:

  • The rights of involuntarily confined patients
  • Inmates of the County Jail and House of Correction
  • Children in the Child Welfare system, and
  • Victims of significant or widespread discrimination or violations of the right to due process of law.

Legal Aid only takes civil rights violation cases on a limited, case-by-case basis.
